I was living in Korea at my friend Patrick’s house, who was originally from Birmingham (UK). I would go to Patrick’s house almost every day and indulge in music with him and literally take dozens of Gigs worth of music and put them on my computer.
One day we were listening to a killer setlist by DJ Shadow and I asked what album that was from.
“This is his essential mix.”
Growing up in the Midwest America, I had no clue who Pete Tong was or what an Essential Mix even meant…but from that day on, I believe my life had changed. Essential mixes were both bringing me absolute joy in discovering new tunes but also in the art of how it’s mixed together.
